Peek to Heaven – Lucas Milà

Art Rua Jardim do Regedouro, 17 Lisbon, Portugal 2008
Why is it that when you drink on the street you take the bottle in a cardboard bag?
Everyone knows that there is a bottle of alcohol in there, what sense it can make to hide it? It is assumed that the drinker’s conscience is calmer if “hidden” in the bottle.
However, the act of hiding the bottle does not make you stop thinking about it. It produces the opposite effect.
In this case of art building, the case of a canvas that covers a building because works are being carried out, is not much different from the rest. It is instinctive, man wants to know, by nature. It’s called morbo, interest, curiosity. It can be better viewed socially with the search for knowledge or it can be more reprehensible like voyeurism. But in reality there is not much difference. We want to know.
Whether we like it or not, it will be the reaction that our canvas will provoke. Canvas is an artistic work.
What can think the woman who lives near the construction site and who sees the building think each time she enters and leaves the house? And the man who comes across the canvas every time he comes to the window? What thinks the waiter who works next door and who week after week, for a year, sees the piece of canvas that hides the building?
It is what causes art building. The canvas will arouse the interest of everyone who lives with it. Will happen. Whether we like it or not.
